86 My Monologues & Musings : Cain (Gen 4)

86 My Monologues & Musings : Cain (Gen 4)

Dear Cain,
Congratulations!
You are a very privileged person indeed!
You are the first ever human child who was given birth by a woman and brought into this world.
You are the first baby, the first born child the world ever had!
Your parents must have been thrilled to have a cute little miniature human being!
They learned to be parents having you in their lives!
You were a miracle for them. Weren't you?
Your Mom and Dad must have been gazing at you for hours and marvelling over the miracle of you!
Dear Cain, could you please share with me the pleasant memories of your childhood and the painful events of your later life?
....    ......    ...
"Sure, I am glad to...
My earliest recollection of my infancy is the warmth of those pair of palms of my loving Mom. She used to hold me closer to her hugging me and showering with maternal kisses. As she nursed me and fondled me I was quietened into peaceful sleep.
When awake she used to baby talk and in return I would babble.
She would tickle me to smile and we smiled together!
Later on, my Mom and Dad used to tell me how thrilled they were:
when my first tooth popped up,
when I started to crawl,
when I uttered my first time Mamma..Pappa when I took my first step and fell.
They used to tell I was the first ever baby to be born and they didn't have a clue as how to raise one.
As a toddler I was a bundle of energy...running around....
As a little kid my Dad used to perch me on his sturdy shoulders and take me around..
He would show me the many birds and animals, the various plants and the colorful flowers.. ,
I had many questions and he would patiently answer and explain.
While perched on his shoulders and holding tight on to his bushy locks of hair I used to watch it all.
At least a couple of times I peed and wet his shoulders..
He used to teasingly scold me and I would giggle.
Remember, in those days there weren't any diapers around.
It was all fun and frolic.
I was the centre of their attention and love and i enjoyed every bit of it.

Then came my brother into my life.
It was the first time for me to have a baby around. I was very curious and enjoyed gazing at the  cute little thing. My Mom and Dad kept telling me that he is my little brother.
Initially I was very excited about my little brother.
Later on, I started to resent his presence as I wasn't getting all the attention I used to.
My parents spent more time with him and I didn't like it.
I felt ignored.
I was sad..
I was moody..
I was angry..
As we grew into adolescence our likes and dislikes were very different.
While I took a liking for growing grains, fruits and vegetables, my brother loved tending the sheep.
Thus slowly I was tuned into farming,
he turned to shepherding.
While my brother was very dedicated in his work and loved it, I was a sloppy farmer.
While my brother was faithful to his job I was freelancing with farming.
Though I had a green thumb I didn’t put in much effort.
It so happened one day we both thought of making Thanksgiving offering to God.
My brother selected and prepared the best part of a firstborn lamb with much interest and attention and made the offering to the Lord.
On my part i got ready with some harvest produce and made the offering to the Lord.
To my utter shock and dismay the Lord  rejected me and my offering while He was pleased with my brother and accepted his offering.
I was totally upset and angry as it was a severe blow to my overblown ego.
I sat sulking.
I sat depressed.
I sat brooding over.
I kept thinking to myself that the Lord was prejudiced, partial, and unjust.
His preferential treatment of my brother
made me jealous as well as envious of him.
Though my brother had no role in Lord's rejection of me and my offering, somehow my anger was focusing around him.
He came across to me as a threat.
Then to my surprise the Lord came by and asked me,
"Why are you angry, and why has your countenance fallen?
If you do well, will you not be accepted?
And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door, its desire is for you , but you must master it."
Oh, No!  I thought here He comes to console me!
Quite contrary, I felt He was blaming me.
It seemed that He wanted me to talk,
but I replied him with a stony silence and a swollen face.
He just left, may be much disappointed!
By now my anger was boiling up within me.
I thought to myself,
It's over!
I had enough!
Can't take it anymore!
When i thought and expected the Lord would give me some sympathy and would console me,
here He is with rebuke and warning!
At this point, I was angry with Him too!
But what could I do to a Mighty God?
So i thought to myself I will hit the one whom He loves much, His buddy Abel!
As soon as He left , I planned, plotted, and perfected a script. I invited my brother to come along with me to see around the fields.
My brother fell for it.
I lured him to a lonely location and just murdered him in cold blood.
And when God came by again and asked for Abel, this time I didn’t keep silence.
I back answered Him,
"Am I my brother's keeper?
When I was punished to be a fugitive and wanderer, I complained.
Finally j ended up with mark on my forehead.
When all was said and done it began to dawn on me:
the cruelty of my crime,
the enormity of my guilt, and
the absurdity of my thinking!

Oh, my God,
How good and gracious you are!
How could I ever rebel against you?
How could I be so blind to my weakness?
How could I think that your are prejudiced?
How could I absolve my own negligence?
How could I blame everyone except myself?

Oh, my God,
It was my, fault, my fault, my grievous fault!
Mea Culpa,
Mea Culpa, Mea,
Mea Maxima Culpa!
How sick a mind I did posses and entertain?
I do deserve to be remembered for ever as the First Murderer in whole of human race!
May no one ever be like me, behave like me, and commit a crime so heinous like mine!

Oh, my God,
Though I had wished that I too was killed as a punishment, now I think it was the best form of punishment you gave me,
to wander about as a fugitive and to be shunned by others for years to come.
Thus you gave me yet another chance to keep on repenting and shedding the tears of contrition.
I know when I have repented enough You would grant me pardon and peace!
I keep on waiting for that day!
In the meantime I keep praying for all the siblings in the whole world so that they learn to live in peace and harmony!"

Dear brother Cain,
Thank you for giving me the honor and the opportunity to listen to innermost musings of your soul.
Cain, you know, there is a mini Cain in me too!
I have been jealous as well as envious of my siblings, cousins, confrers, and fellow humans!
Though I haven't physically murdered any of them,
I have Character Assassinated many!
There were and are many Abels in my life!
Mea Culpa,
Mea Culpa,
Mea Maxima Culpa!
Dear Merciful Jesus, Dear Good Shepherd,
Thank you for making me aware of the mini Cain in me.

Jesus My Lord and My Master,
Do keep asking me everyday,
"Where is your brother?"
I want to turn the Killer in me into a Keeper!
Jesus, My Lord and My God,
Thank you:
For your
Unconditional Love of me!
Unlimited Patience with me!
Untold Forgiveness for me!
Amen

85 My Monologues & Musings : World Teachers Day

85 My Monologues & Musings :
World Teachers Day
Jesus, My Teacher,
My Rabbi,
You were known as the Rabbi, the Teacher.
The people who got a chance to listen to you and to meet you were impressed with with way you taught, right?
You taught with compassion, with clarity, and with authority.
A vast majority of the ordinary folks listened to you with rapt attention and admiration.
Yet, some of the traditional teachers felt threatened.
They were green envy and red with fury and plotted to do away with you, right?
In your ancestral religion and culture the teachers were called as 'Rabbi' and were held In high esteem.
They were male teachers.
They were persons of knowledge and wisdom.
In our present day, we have both male and female teachers.
As we honour them today, we bring them to you!
May our teachers:
Whether they are young or elderly,
Whether they are female or male,
Whether they are single or married,
Whether they are parents or grandparents,
Whether they are well off or in want,
Whether they are in school or in college,
Whether they are at home or far away,
Whether they are happy or sad,
Whether they are in good or in bad health,
Whether they teach religion or language,
Whether they teach art or architecture,
Whether they teach science or technology,
Whether they are part time or full time,
Whether they are temporary or tenured,
Whether they well paid or underpaid,
May all of our teachers all over the world, We offer them to you.
May everyone of them:
Be healthy and be happy!
Be able and be dedicated!
Be loving and be caring!
Be appreciated and be thanked!
May our teachers find fulfillment and joy
In their personal and professional life!
Lord Jesus, in a very special way,
I bring before you all the teachers in my life,
From the kindergarten to college,
From home and from abroad.
I bring before you my first teacher from my village who taught me write in white sand and learn the alphabets of my mother tongue.
I bring my the last teacher from the universities at home and abroad.
I bring before you all the many teachers in between.
I bring them before you to be blessed!
I bow my head before them in gratitude!
Bless them and their loved ones.
Bless every teacher in world over!
Rabbi Jesus,  'Raboni',
bless them!
Amen

84 My Monologues & Musings : St. Francis Assisi

84 My Monologues & Musings : St. Francis Assisi
Dear saintly and friendly Francis,
To day, very many of your fellow sisters and brothers remember you in a very special way by celebrating your feast.
Dear saint, I would be really honoured and privileged, if you could share some of your reminiscences about your life.....
.....     ......     .......   ......   ......    .......
"Sure, I am glad to ..
As they say, I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth. My was hard working and successful textile merchant. He owned large tracts of farmland as well. My Mom was a very pretty lady and a devout housewife. I had everything i needed and whatever i wishef and wanted. I was a sort of pampered boy! I loved partying, booze, and all the wildest things carved by youth!
By the time I was fourteen I quit school. I got interested in music, wrestling, archery, and horse riding. I wanted to make name for myself and joined the army to fight for my native land and was taken prisoner. My father had to put a hefty sum as a ransom to get me freed...  In the meantime, I had mellowed down a bit and felt an inner urge to change for better.
I had some sort of a God experience.
I began to be more spiritual.
All along my wild and wayward ways, I always had a soft corner for the poor and sick. I went to the extreme, even parting with my fine, warm clothing for the poor and the sick. My father couldn't stand my exaggerated compassion for the port and sick. We had several violent arguments and fights. Finally I in very dramatic way we disowned each other.
I was becoming more and more an ascetic, fasting and neglecting to care for my body.
May be due to my guilt for the past.  I began to find strengthl and solace from communing with Jesus and contemplating on the beauty and bounty of nature. I loved the birds and animals. For hours i used to spend with them ..conversing with them..feeding them.. singing aloud.I also had visions  from Jesus my Saviour. He gifted me with stigma.
Many thought that I had gone mad!
In the meantime I had gathered a group of like minded and fervent young men and we formed a sort of a praying and serving community.
Clara, the pretty and courageous young woman was was fascinated by our way of life and dedication to tge Lord. She joined us and formed a community of dedicated and praying women.
At the age forty three I was sick, severely ill. i longed with Lord which soon I did!
I am glad the world is showing renewed interest in appreciating and caring for the universe, for the beautiful Earth and it's creatures! So glad to know of the current Pope has taken interest in the care and responsible use the nature and it's resources. Am honoured to know he had adopted my name as his Papal Name!
I love his "Laudato Si"
I am happy up hers in heaven and keep praying for everyone on earth!
I keep sing,
"Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me bring you love;
Where there is injury, your healing pow'r,
And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there's despair in life let me bring hope;
Where there is darkness, - only light,
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love with all my soul - .

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving to all that we receive,
And in dying that we're born to eternal life."

Thank you,
Dear loving saint Francis for what you were and what you are!
You are a Wounded Healer!
You are probably one closest admires and follower of Lord Jesus!
I wish, how i wish to be a far distant shadow of your dedication and devotion to Jesus Lord and our God!
Today is very special day for me in personal way.
It is the death anniversary of my mother who was called by the Lord while still an infant baby!
Though very sad to miss her I am happy she was called by the Lord on your Feastday.
I know for certain she is happy over there and praying for me.
Jesus, My Lord and My God,
A big thank you for giving us Francis Assisi.
Let me keep singing,
Make me a channel.of your peace..."
Amen

83 My Monologues & Musings : International Nonviolence Day

83 My Monologues & Musings : International Nonviolence Day

Oh, God of Love and Peace,
You want us and You wish us to be Peace Loving and Nonviolent to each other,
Don't You?
But ever since the days of Cain and Abel we have been violent to ourselves and to one another.
Our selfishness, our greed, our lust for wealth, power, and pleasure have been driving us to be violent with our own fellow humans.
Violently, we quarrel.
Violently we fight over land, religion, and race.
We fret over and  fight over imagined or real injustice of every sort.
We fasily believe violence is the easiest and surest means to rectify the wrongs done to us.
Yet every real religion and faith exhorts us to eschew hate and to shun violence.
But even in the name of these religions we keep  fighting with vengeance and violence!

Oh, God of Peace and Harmony,
It is so easy to reflect and talk in terms of "We" and "Our / Us" and comfort ourselves.

But, Lord,
When i look into me,
I find in myself a strong tendency to be violent.
My first memory of serious violent behavior goes back to my school days. In early teens, once a bullying fellow student provoked into a fistfight.
I hit him with my aluminium tiffin box on his left cheekbone.
His cheek turned black and blue.
He and his father came to my home and complained to my father.
Reluctantly I had to ask pardon and make up.
Though initially feeling proud of having stood up to him, later on I felt bad.
I still remember the incident with mixed feelings!
Now being a near seventy year old priest,
I hardly engage in violent behaviors and actions.
But, I am often prone to give went to verbal violence.
The most distressing fact about myself is :
I tend to entertain thoughts of violence and violent reactions.
I love to fuel the fire and the stock the flame of violent and vengeful thoughts against any and everyone who opposes me. Outwardly, I tend to pretend to be gentle and polite.
But deep within me, the there is a part in me seething with violent thoughts!
How miserable, I am at times!

Dear Jesus, Lord of Peace and Harmony!
I want to be at peace with myself accepting that a part of me which loves violent thoughts.
I want to tackle these thoughts, deal with them as and when they haunt me.
I want to transform them into thoughts of Peace and Nonviolence.
I want to be inspired by you!

I want to be encouraged by the message of Non-Violence preached and practised by Mahatma Gandhi ( M. K. Gandhi), the apostle of Nonviolence of modern India, my motherland!
It is in honor of him the world observes today as
The International Day of Nonviolence.
May all those against whom I harbour violent thoughts,
May they be blessed!
May my heart overflow with the thoughts of Nonviolence and Peace!
Amen

82 My Monologues & Musings : International Day for the Older Persons

82 My Monologues & Musings : International Day for Older Persons

Oh, loving God of our Fathers and Mothers,
My first ever traceable memory of Older and Elderly Persons revolves around my Grandparents!
I used to call them Appen and Amma.
I thank you for their significant presence in my life and helping me to grow up in my childhood days.
Grant Eternal Rest unto them, Lord!
Thank You, for sending them into my life.
One of the best things they have given me  is their near unconditional love and support.
Besides them there were and are many elderly persons of both genders, relative, my parents, my teachers and many elderly priests. Everyone of them has contributed to my existence, my growth and, my functioning as a person and as a priest.
Bless everyone of them, Lord!

Oh, Loving God, Our Father and our Mother,
As you know there are many thousands of Older and Elderly  Persons who are neither loved nor appreciated nor cared for.
A good many of them are either neglected or abandoned.
Many of them are being treated by their families as burdens and liabilities!
Many of them are subjected to either  physical or emotional or mental or spiritual tortures.
Oh, Loving God, Our Father and Mother,
May i your child along with all your children learn to love and care for our Older and Elderly Persons.
May we tend to treasure:
them,
their memories,
their sacrifices and
their contributions
to their families
to us and
to the human race at large!

Dear Lord Jesus,
You too have enjoyed lots of love care from your Significant Older and Elderly.
Besides your parents, your Grandparents both maternal and paternal must have given you lots love and care, Haven't they?
I have heard of Joachim and Anna, your maternal Grandparents who have given you lots attention and affection!
I gratefully bring before you my Significant Older and Elderly and all the Older and the Elderly so that they may be loved and cared for!
I thank you for giving me my Grandparents and the Older Persons who have been very significant in my life!
Jesus, My Lord and My God,
Keep them ever closer to you!
Amen
